Why You Will Love KÜHL Outdoor Clothing: A Review

Like most travelers, I prefer my adventure clothes to be multi-taskers. Since I am an avid hiker, city walker, and former fashion retail strategist, I hold high expectations for my travel apparel. I want my outdoor clothing to perform well, look good, and wash and dry quickly. When this happens, I can pack fewer things and travel lighter.

Since we first discovered US-based KÜHL outdoor clothing several years ago, when I bought a fleece jacket, and my husband purchased several pairs of pants, I have loved their singular blend of functionality and style ever since.

So, I was thrilled when a rep from this activewear brand reached out and sent us a few new KÜHL items to test and review. Check out this article to see what we think of the items—some of which I got to try out on a recent girlfriend getaway to Sedona, Arizona.

Although KÜHL gifted us a few items mentioned in this article, we previously independently purchased and paid for several KÜHL brand jackets and pants. All opinions in this article are my own.

About KÜHL

From durable hiking pants and technical shirts to cozy jackets and versatile layers, KÜHL offers a wide range of men’s and women’s outdoor apparel and accessories that deliver on both practicality and aesthetic appeal. Their attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and innovative designs that incorporate a flair for style set them apart, making them a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and adventurers who demand more.

KÜHL Women’s Transcendr Legging Review

The KÜHL Women’s Transcendr Legging is a versatile and stylish activewear pant ideal for hiking, running, or exploring.

Made from a durable and stretchy nylon and spandex fabric—these breathable leggings also feature a high-rise and inner drawstring waistband, giving it a secure and comfortable fit that stays in place. These pants have a hidden credit-sized pocket on the waistband interior and a phone-sized cargo pocket on the right leg. Both welcome pockets are ideal for securely stashing personal items while hiking or walking.

In terms of style, the Transcendr Legging is a winner. It features a flattering and slimming silhouette with a sleek and understated design that is easy to dress up or down. Whether you pair them with a technical top for a hike or an oversized cozy sweater for a casual day out, these leggings provide the perfect base layer to build upon.

The Transcendr Legging also offers practical features that make it perfect for outdoor activities. These include moisture-wicking and quick-drying material, helping you stay dry and comfortable on warm days and during intense climbs or workouts. The leggings also provide UPF 50+ sun protection, making them ideal for sunny days on the trail.

KÜHL Women’s Ascendyr Long Jacket Review

The KÜHL Women’s Ascendyr Long Jacket is an outerwear workhorse. Roomy enough for an underlayer and slim and warm enough to fit under a shell. Its flattering fit and long styling make it perfect for hitting the trail or visiting cities and exploring new neighborhoods.

The women’s items KÜHL sent to me.

On an early December Sedona trip, I wore my Ascendyr jacket nonstop. Paired with a scarf and a tank, I wore this jacket when navigating the airport and on my flight. While hiking on rainy days, I layered it under a raincoat. On clear days, it served as my outer layer.

The jacket was also the perfect outer layer for my Cathedral Rock trail hike.

Made from a durable and water-resistant polyester fabric that resembles part sweater on the outside and compact fleece on the inside, this jacket can withstand the elements. Plus, thanks to its long length, you get more coverage—making it ideal for staying warm in colder and rainy weather.

In addition, the Ascendyr Long Jacket is also breathable and moisture-wicking, ensuring you stay comfortable and dry during high-intensity activities. Plus, its deep zippered hip pockets are perfect for stashing a phone, snacks, and for dog owners—pup treats!

KÜHL Women’s Ultralight No Show Sock Review

When it comes to outdoor clothing, socks rarely merit a mention. However, the right pair can make or break a hike or a fun day exploring. Too loose? They might keep annoyingly slipping into your shoes. Not moisture-wicking enough? You could soon be sporting an unwelcome blister from a wet fabric chafe.

So, when it came to KÜHL’s Ultralight No Show Sock, I was a huge fan. In wearing them the first time, I went in with high expectations. I expect a lot from my footwear, and these KÜHL socks did not disappoint.

Made from a lightweight blend of nylon, merino wool, and Lycra—these breathable socks felt soft and silky, and they stayed in place, keeping my feet cool and dry all day.

Plus, I appreciated their no-show design, a perfect accompaniment for low-cut sneakers or trail shoes. The socks also have a cushioned sole providing more support and a reinforced toe and heel for durability. Overall, I found these socks superior and nearly luxurious compared to other high-performing brands.

KÜHL Women’s Flight Jacket Review

The first thing that drew me to the KÜHL Flight Jacket was the style. Finally, a performance fleece that evolved from a base utilitarian design! I was intrigued when I saw it. And then—in love with it when I tried it on.

Although the styling of this Italian mid-weight fleece with its vintage micro suede zipper accents and contrast stitching caught my eye, its functionality sealed the deal.

This fleece, which I purchased in the Stone color, provided warmth without the bulk. Thanks to its form-fitting and lightweight body, it was ideal for layering in wet or wintry weather. Plus, I found its zippered side pockets deep enough for anything from my phone to my earphones to my dog’s treats.

When in Ireland on a spring family trip, it was the only warm layer I needed for city exploring, country walks, or to fit under a raincoat.

KÜHL Men’s Invigoratr 1/4 Zip Review

The sleek KÜHL Men’s Invigoratr 1/4 Zip is the ideal men’s layering piece. This versatile garment has the perfect balance of performance and modern style, making it an excellent men’s outdoor wardrobe staple.

My husband loved the zip he received in the Pirate Blue color. Made from high-quality superfine merino wool, he found this Invigoratr zip soft and comfortable while appreciating its warmth and insulation.

I loved its handsome and flattering fit. My husband appreciated the zip’s touch of sophistication due to stylish details like contrast stitching and a subtle chest pocket, making it equally appropriate for casual work and the trail. Other performance benefits include its dryness due to its moisture-wicking fabric and sun protection with UPF +50 rating.

KÜHL Men’s Pants Review

My husband and I have been fans of KÜHL for years. For him, especially—since he has purchased three different KÜHL branded pants—Rydr, Deceptr, and Resistor pants.

He keeps returning to KÜHL to buy performance slacks for their modern fit, updated style, flexible and durable fabric—typically a mix of nylon, cotton, and spandex—and deep pockets. He uses these highly versatile and flattering pants for work and travel, including city walking and hiking.

KÜHL Men’s Outlaw Waxed Jacket

This jacket was a surprise. The Men’s Outlaw Waxed Jacket was sent to us by KÜHL to try out and review. And it is a piece that my husband may not have purchased independently. Mainly because he did not know how much he would use or appreciate it until he had it in hand.

This rugged and stylish jacket made of wax-coated cotton has a vintage look and offers fashionable durability rolled into high-quality outerwear. It has a tailored and flattering fit, ideal for a post-hike night on the town. Made from a water-resistant and windproof fabric that can withstand the elements, the jacket also offers a handsome interior lining in a richly colored pattern reminiscent of a Pendleton blanket.

Additional touches, such as heavy-duty stitching, add to its appeal. The jacket also has a full front button closure, providing weather protection, and has multiple secure zip and button pockets for convenient storage.

Where to Buy KÜHL Outdoor Clothing

Shop KÜHL’s head-to-toe collection of apparel and accessories for all seasons, plus travel bags and outdoor gear, on their website or in a KÜHL-owned store in Park City, San Francisco, Jackson Hole, or Seattle.

Or shop at one of their authorized retailers, like REI, or small independent adventure outfitter stores throughout the US, like Canyon Outfitters in Sedona, Arizona, where I saw many favorite items. Check out the KÜHL store locator to find a shop near you.

KÜHL Return Policy & Warranty

Items bought from KÜHL.com or KÜHL-owned stores can be returned within 45 days of purchase if the item is in original and unworn condition with the tags attached. Shoppers can return KÜHL items bought from authorized retailers according to that retailer’s return and exchange policy.

In addition, KÜHL guarantees the quality and performance of its products as part of a warranty. Under this warranty, KÜHL will repair or replace any defective items purchased directly through them or an authorized seller. However, KÜHL considers normal wear and tear not covered and will not repair or replace items deemed worn down due to time and heavy use.
