Many blogs fail. For those that do not, most receive modest traffic, less than 1,000 visitors a month. I launched this travel blog in March 2021, exceeded 10,000 monthly visitors for the first time in December 2023, and more than quadrupled it in six months. Although I finally achieved meaningful growth, it was slow coming and hard-won. And even today, it is still subject to many ups and downs.
To keep my head in the game, I keep track of detailed monthly growth markers across my blog and social media. I have been doing this since September 2021. This data serves as a reminder of how far I have come. I share it below with others who may be impatient for growth, feel frustrated, or need reassurance that building a business and audience from travel blogging and content creation is still possible. Scroll this page to view my spreadsheet and click through to my data tracker.
Initially, I also wrote info-rich blog updates to complement the data. However, I opted to stick to what I love most—creating content about travel. Furthermore, these initial musings quickly became obsolete due to the ever-changing search landscape related to AI and other factors, such as Google continually reshaping its algorithms. In the meantime, I’ll keep exploring, connecting, and sharing the unique stories that make travel unforgettable and life-changing. Follow along with my monthly Discovery Newsletter.
If you love data—this spreadsheet is for you. Click it to view monthly performance data for the blog, affiliate sales, my email newsletter, and social media. Why share so much? I hope to help others navigate how to make it work. And to learn exactly how long it takes to make a blog-as-a-business succeed.

Hi there Josie, I do show ads from Google Adsense (currently) on my site. Though I keep them sparse on some pages to ensure higher rankings on SERPs (search engine result pages) and to keep the experience clean for readers. Is see you have a website too. Have you found a different method/ad program has worked better for you?
Hi Janice,
Why aren’t you monetized with programmatic ads?
