Rebecca Gade Sawicki smiling and eating a plate of vegan food

A Conversation with Rebecca Gade-Sawicki at Veggies Abroad

Every Friday, I interview a different traveler for my Instagram and Facebook pages. I love following along and sharing their journeys. Find a recap below from my Q&A with Rebecca Gade-Sawicki of Veggies Abroad.

About Rebecca

Rebecca is the creator behind the vegan travel blog, Veggies Abroad. The blog was born from her love of travel, and eating of course, but also because of the number one question she would get asked after every trip – what in the world did you eat! People assumed because Rebecca is vegan that starvation must occur when she left her house. Crazy, right!?

So, she wanted to dispel that myth and also help other vegan and veg-curious travelers around the world find amazing food, things to do, places to stay, including vegan options, plus so much more!

Why do you believe people should travel?

If given the opportunity, because after all travel is a privilege, people should explore the world around them to experience new ways of living, and thinking. Travel pushes us out of our comfort zones to experience things we might not experience at home and makes us realize just how different and similar we all are and how great that makes the world.

Do you have any tips for being able to afford travel?

No doubt, travel can be expensive but my two biggest tips are to be flexible and get a credit card with great rewards! By flexible, I don’t just mean with times of day, sometimes by changing your departure a day or two can make a difference, or try different airports—if you’re going to Barcelona and Paris, check both airports for your arrival, one might be cheaper to fly into.

Also, consider taking the train from one place to another, not only is it better for your wallet but also the environment.

Are you A Carry-on or baggage check Kind of Traveler?

Carry-on! Always! I went to Europe once with a giant, can fit a body-size suitcase and will never make that mistake again. Lugging that thing across cobblestone, into and off of trains was a real pain in the neck. Also, I didn’t even need half the stuff that I brought, after that, I learned to be a very intentional packer.
